Luffy got up in Wano despite being far more exhausted and hurt there, I don't think it's as simple as "he was immobilized so he lost", I think Oda just didn't let him get up since it'd ruined Saturn's entrance and also Kuma getting his revenge there.

plot works both way, if Luffy being immobilized was "plot", then anything bad that happened to Kizaru is also plot since he looked unscathed at the end of Egghead and we factually know he was slacking off on the job and was doing it reluctantly.
