If we buy the actual story, when Hanafuda was kicked out of the Warlords for losing to Ace, it was rival pirates that eventually killed him, not the WG.
With Moriah, the WG went to kill him right away, almost like they didn't want him teaming up with anyone else. That might be because of the poneglyphs. Also, CG doesn't have an official poneglyph reader, so that might be Moriah.

Perona is going to seek out Mihawk for shelter after seeing the Cross Guild Poster revealing that she has Mihawks vivre card.
Since they are both being Hunted by the Black Beard Pirates and the WG
Mihawk will allow Moria and Perona to join cutting to them having somewhat of a friendly relationship since they were former warlords and Mihawk admiting that he misses Peronas company (while not showing it)
Crocodile on the other hand will be reluctant hinting at moria tricky nature
Mihawk will assure him that "Moria has the heart of samurai possibly hinting a knowledge of his true name and heritage
You would think Mihawk of all people would know a true Samurai if he saw one

as we got closer to the endgame, more and more people have popped up with the ability to read poneglyphs.
pre skip and up until like Zou, there was only Robin who was able to do this at all.
Then we got Pudding in wci, Sukiyaki(and potentially momo soon) in wano, punks in egghead.
So we got at least one reader per arc since wci. Moria being revealed as a reader in elfab tracks.
