I'm legitimately curious as to how Oda will redeem Roger and Garp after this.

One possibility I guess is that they actually changed their minds and helped Rocks after finding his real reason for being on GV, but Rocks was possessed by Imu forcing them to fight him.

Or maybe a full power Imu showed up and 1v3'd all of them, with Rocks pulling a sacrifice and WG basically forcing them into silence.

Not sure how realistic these ideas are, just throwing them out there.

"Possessed" makes me wonder what imu requires to possess someone, like big mom soul soul fruit requires fear.

So it's almost confirm Rocks was more special than Roger.
Direct descendant/clan of Davy (jones) who's one the most important character of the ancient times next to Joyboy (who's probably Luffy lineage)
More and more reason to believe Rocks > Roger.

Even if Rocks is stronger, we won't see him beating Roger or both having a 1v1 without some interference or emotional distraction.
Moreover Oda do not make rivals top tier beat one another cleanly on panel
He also made Harald lose to Rocks by purpose this chapter.

The fight between Rocks and Roger will most likely be a highly controversial one again, where side A and B have a chance to cope with it. (Oda likes his fandom to have arguments??)
But i deeply believe Rocks is the one getting slight edge, and the one to have a worser fate/nerf than Roger.

I mean, excluding Wang Zhi, it's hard to call this revenge when Garp's capture wasn't something Teach himself even planned, and he offered Ace to become his nakama twice and without any ill feelings.

One of the best things about Teach is that he doesn't seem to the type to hold grudges – he's a pure opportunist at heart. He is ambition personified, and that should overshadow everything else. Rewriting him to be obsessed with revenge for his papa would legit be a terrible decision.

BB did not want revenge he more smart than that .
He was willing to make ace part of his crew but ace said no so he hand him over but he did not hate him or anything .
Garp was taken prisoner but BB had nothing to do with it and he don't even want to kill him but use him .
Wang Zhi just had something he wanted which was the same for BB .
The man was like WB you get weak so now it's my time .

Well we don't actually know why Roger was there or his alliegances. We just found out Xebec's actual reason to be there was to rescue his family so Sengoku's retelling of the story isn't to be trusted anymore, specially since he left out the part about the CD genocide tournament.
At this point the whole "Roger and Garp teamed up to protect CD's and defeat Rocks" statement has gotta be leaving details out.
