Tension is one major reason, if you manga doesn't have it, people gonna lose interest in it.

Adding the five Gorosei to Eggehad was a big mistake, worse than that was the fact that the strawhats escaped the arc(after having a buster call(even stronger) leaded by Kizaru and Saturn) without any major injurie or problem.

Oda way to write villians fall off more since the timeskip. You notice how he didn't even care much for Kizaru vs Luffy.

Compare One Piece when it started VS today.
It is clear that Oda is old now and can't do the stuff anymore what made One Piece special.

One piece is not just about Lore piece, even if people dislike it fights always played a big role.
And back then fights been more interesting because we had different typ of opponents with different unique fightstyles.. from close combat to long range combat.

Oda but lot of work to showcase someone devilfruit power as example. The variation of different attacks and skills been that what made people keep watching the manga. Because it was not one liner like today.

People been hyped about every new arc because every new villian had his own unique df power.

Haki made it more balanced between people who didn't had fruits. But unlike devilfruits, haki seems be kinda "boring" after getting known to it? The varierty of haki is the big problem here.

If the strongest haki is just a shockwave power up everyone is using, then something is wrong because it is not unique. Awakened df are more interesting because they have different variety of skills/meaning.

Given that Oda don't put more details anymore into fights, it doesn't make it better that Adv CoC as example is just a simple skill, everyone is using it who awake it. That is the new super Sayajin. Nen System in Hunter x Hunter is more better because having Nen doesn't mean you have the same ability as the others.

I know after working over 25 years on One Piece, you have not the strenght anymore like in the past. That is where I wished that Oda had a special Editor(old veteran) who helps him out by drawing the fight paneling and putting details in fight skills, making a new whole concept to make haki better. That would maybe also bring back more tension if the fights been better handeled.

I mean with all respect, you guys saw Bochi fight with Ace vs Jinbe or Ace vs Whitebeard?
It is not just the art, it is the way how a Mangaka use the abilities/powers in his own manga, making the battle looking more intense...

That is what One Piece lacks and barely have since the timeskip.
I think you hit the nail on the head about the biggest problem with haki. It all mostly functions the same with every person who has it. It's either shockwaves or black skin armor where the winner in a match is decided by: "MY PAIN HAKI IS GREATER THAN YOURS!" Sure there's CoC and seeing into the future, but the first is just bigger shockwaves with lightning and the other is just Mantra.

Devil Fruits and individual fighting styles were special because each one was unique and the characters had to figure out their special weaknesses to overcome them. But when haki is the end all be all that can even cancel a power, like Law did with Doc Q, the magic is just sort of gone. Which is why I think Oda is trying to introduce more mythical fruits and real black magic into the series now, since it's the only way to raise the stakes and keep things interesting.

I highly doubt he can pull it off though because, as you said, the guy is too old now, and he really should have a larger team of dedicated editors and assistants to help him instead of only relying on two guys every few years. Oda had the perfect apprentice to continue the series for him in terms of both art and story with Yusaku Shibata, but as of now that just went nowhere as the guy's solo series didn't pan out and he only does Dragon Quest manga spin-offs now.

It also doesn't help that Oda's editors are mostly useless. The guy we were stuck with for years from Zou to Wano was a Yes Man who cried over anything Oda did, talked about how reluctant he was to speak up, and that the only thing he had the balls to do was begging Oda to put Carrot in more panels because he had a crush on her, giving many the false impression that she was a potential nakama.

LMFAO HOLY FUCK! I love these memes so much! :luffylaugh::luffylaugh::luffylaugh:

I wonder if Oda ever sees these and laughs his ass off too?

On a side note, I was gonna post asking on what we think the next cover story will be eventually? If he doesn't return directly in the story yet (but he will ofc), maybe it could actually be for Law?

Although I was expecting to get one for Carrot before Yamato but alas RIP, Oda clearly hates her as we've not seen her at all since she was made queen of Zou (same energy as Ava a teenage girl being made leader of the revolutionary army faction n Borderlands 3) except for a random cover page IIRC?

I hope we get an update on Law in a chapter directly but I'd settle for a cover story at least. But I think given what happened to him and his crew and ship, it needs way more than single panel with no dialogue per chapter to really process what happened to him for both himself and for us too.

Nah

After seeing Snakeman job to Kizaru I’m pretty sure Oda would write G4 vs any admiral (and Garp too) basically the same where there’s a back and forth and then a big attack knocks back Gear 4

Gear 4 is a hype tool form now
Kizaru is the fastest Admiral, it wasn't really a matter of power for Snakeman just speed
I doubt Garp is as fast as Kizaru so Snakeman probably wouldn't have as much trouble with him. Hell I'd argue he just needs Boundman for people like Garp and Kuzan

You’re thinking about it too logically, from a narrative standpoint Oda probably isn’t ever going to have Gear 4 or base Luffy look as strong as they did against Kaido now that he has Gear 5 and that represents Luffy fighting seriously (look at the Gaban fight for example — logically based on feats I don’t think Luffy would need G5 for him but that’s how Oda showed us the fight getting serious).

Like say we had Garp vs Luffy on Egghead instead of Kizaru, you probably have Garp and Boundman start trading attacks offscreen with Garp saying “I can see why you took down Kaido” then Garp pulls out galaxy impact and sends him packing, then Luffy gets serious and comes back with Gear 5.

That’s probably how basically all Luffy fights with top tiers will go

Absolutely, and it's not just here. Other OP fan sites are slowing down in activity. The cringe subreddits, the twitter X accounts, the OP wikis, and even Arlong Park only ever has like around ten people now. The only time you ever see activity anywhere is for spoilers, theories, or powerscale agenda topics. The internet was going crazy when Nika was about to premiere in the anime, many claiming it would surpass SSJ hype... but then it just fizzled out quickly. I also think the cast bloat in Wano and Oda's obsession with wanking Oden played a part too, and it shows in how volume sales for that period decreased for a time.

But when I really saw things die down was when Egghead finished. JFC what a trashfire. Poorly written, not a single answer or reveal of note, Vegapunk was a complete disappointment, his message was a nothing burger, the Gorosei make their big debut only to get jobbed by a haki rope plot device, and Franky gets zero screentime with his idol outside of anime filler.

This is a point in the story where things should really be cooking, yet it feels like more of the same or more pointless mysteries, while the Straw Hats themselves once again get zero development. Even Usopp, who is finally on his dream island and may be the first Straw Hat to accomplish his dream, is just... nothing.
Tbh it also feels like theorizing has become pointless since oda can and will just retcon stuff to completely change the world out of nowhere. Or worse, we’ll get more Shakky being the legendary treasure of pirate island.

I doubt it, for example Zoro nearly killed Lucci without even using Asura or KoH techniques. He also beat Pica without Asura
Nothing says the characters will always absolutely NEED to use their new powerups to stand a chance against an opponent from there on, it could be a rule but there's exceptions to that rule. And again, it's about why Luffy would need G5 for Garp in the first place.
Oda didn't just make Luffy instantly go G5 on Kizaru, he showed us WHY Luffy needed to use G5 for him, and the reason was his absurd speed. Same with the Seraphim, Luffy simply going G4 wasn't enough to hurt them (albeit he might not have been using ACoC) because they were too durable when they had their flames on. Going G5 might have solved that issue as he has many ways to bypass durability in that mode and pressure them to take flames off.
Why would he need to use G5 on Garp? Unless Garp is actually more powerful than Hybrid Kaido (which I seriously doubt) there's no way he pushes Luffy that far. He doesn't have the speed Kizaru has, the durability the Seraphim have, or the overall monstrous stats that Kaido has. At least, Old Garp doesn't have all that. Prime Garp is a different beast

@MonsterKaido your opinion on this?

The weirdest thing about Kaido, and a part I think really ties him together, is his alcoholism. I know it’s a Shonen manga so ideas like his suicidality and alcoholism can’t become too crushing, but it paints a picture of a really empty, broken man who’s only pound of pride was his strength. He always wanted to be the kind of leaders he saw around him and heard in legend… joyboy, Rocks, Rodger, Whitebeard, even Big Mom, but in the end he knew his only redeeming quality was his strength. Hence needing to start a global war to “prove” himself. I think this all comes together when we learn just how much he wanted to be Joyboy… and that deep down he knew he wasn’t. In a way he’s Oda’s darkest, most internally broken character, but we never got that flashback that tied all these ideas together into a single picture because Oda was in a rush to finish Wano and had already given us everything we needed to put to together ourselves.

The new Bond game actually looking promising so far. I didn't like the BA but once he said the iconic "Bond. James Bond" line I grinned. I grinned even happier hearing the classic theme song in the trailer too.

Given its made by the Hitman devs, it should be fantastic tbf but I'm scared they're gonna force always online DRM like with Hitman. I'm certain they will in fact.

Sadly gotta wait till March but but it will make a damn nice early birthday present at least!
