Tbf Kaido himself forgot about his mission. He asked Big Mom why wouldn't they fight Garp. It was until BM reminded him that Kaido agreed to run from Garp.
So if we leave the mission aside and only focus on what was going through Kaido mind when he faced Xebec and Garp, Kaido was ready to scrap with Xebec 1 on 1. Kaido thought he needed BM and WB to fight Garp.

You see your superiors and seniors asking you to run and its just 1 opponent. You question them why run?? And not even fight back?
This is same as Oden asking WB why don't they fight back the fodders Marines when WB called to move away when being chased by them
And How do you keep interpreted as Kaido asking for WB and BM help or pleading them like he needs help. It's WB who aksed them to run.

It works like this:
- If Kaidou, who had previously shown interest in Devil Fruits and in obtaining one, stops pursuing his goal just because Garp or any other pirate was chasing him = Kaidou is stupid, the only thing he did upon arriving on the island was fight, and it’s the same guy who was after a Devil Fruit, haha Kaidou is dumb and a walking contradiction.
- If Kaidou decides to go after his main objective while ignoring confrontations for now = Kaidou is cowardly, why is he running away from fights? Is he afraid?

Different situation imo. It's pirates vs marines. Oden also did not enjoy fighting. He's not battle maniac like Kaido.
Here we see Garp a single man attacking Kaido, Big Mom and Whitebard. Kaido as someone who enjoys fighting should have asked to fight Garp 1 on 1.
Sure whether Kaido was reminded of df mission or not it does not change that before Kaido was reminded about df, he thought about getting help to fight Garp. Kaido was the guy who enjoyed fighting. He chose to fight Luffy 1 on 1 and got angry when CP0 helped him kill Luffy.
I meant the thought process of Kaido here is BEFORE WB chose to run away. Why did Kaido choose to gang up on Garp?

I just couldn't find what you see about Kaido need "help" or "asked for help" just to try n fight Garp or anything that support Kaido doesn't want to fight Garp solo.
Let Kaido be solo not with WB or BM near them, and Garp pulls up to him solo vs solo
He'll fight him without second thought.
