I'm only happy because I don't care much for the quality of this manga anymore. I would have been mad maybe 5 years ago. I saw this coming the minute Garling stabbed the mother of his children. He's too evil for Oda to give him real respect.

A prime wb would still be under xebec . Problem is after xebec died there wasn’t anyone else as capable for him to follow. It’s actually damn hard to find a case of where a subordinate outgrows their captain , and if the officer at any point thought they had the potential to outgrow their captain , they would leave . Zoro made this clear to luffy more than once . Rocks is a stronger pirate than roger because he got people to follow him that would not sail under Roger’s flag. Are people going to act wb joined him in the Imu battle due to some Davy back duel???

From a character perspective, absolutely not. Which is why WB was cooked since this flashback started. His downfall as the Great WB, the one who stands above all, was cemented.
