It's an ego thing
The sole thing separating humans from animals is our intelligence
And our egos not allowing us to admit we're all animals we're just different in a lot of ways
But it shouldn't be normal to hurt a dog unless they're hurting you just like it's not normal to hurt a human unless they're hurting you
We view any animal that isn't human as an inferior life form and thus we do whatever we want to them. Look at how circuses treat animals for example, iirc I remember an elephant going mad and rampaging in a town after breaking out of the circus because they treated it like shit. And there's many cases of animals such as orcas attacking trainers.
The "decent" people in this world all agree that things like slavery being outlawed was a net positive for the world but for some reason that only applies to humans being enslaved. They just laugh whenever it happens to animals.
And look at people who overfeed their cats and call them chonky or some shit like that. They find it hilarious. There's even whole subreddits like r/chonkers for that.
But if you want to overfeed a human to the point where they're actually obese and can not function correctly, you'd be rightfully seen as a fetishist and a disgusting creep.
Too many people only have sympathy for their own people at the end of the day, and that's why it's so hard for us to get along. Even amongst our own species we have discrimination and bias.

To be honest I'm being hypocritical for criticizing Hassan since I profit from the domination, exploitation and massive extermination of animal by eating them and not always in an ethical manner.. But yeah I agree with you and I think the concept of dehumanization needs to be rethinked to take into account this problem
I think it's fine to eat things like steak and all that, other animals have a track record for eating animals to survive and be healthy after all, the problem is when we stop doing it purely as a survival of the fittest thing and start doing it for the fun of it. I.e mass breeding animals to make things we don't even need like chicken nuggets, or foie gras (easily one of the most deplorable origins for a food)

A huge issue is that we never needed this much meat
Our bodies literally cannot handle 3+ meat heavy meals a week, people who compare themselves to Spartans who brag about Carnivorous diets don't realise how Vegetable heavy Spartan cuisine was
