There are some good characters in DressRosa. There are no great ones. Just good characters. Diamante is not one of them. If I were to make a top 20 of DR characters, I would even forget to mention Diamante.

Doffy is a great character. In my top 3 just below Teach and then Sanji.
I made a tier list that backs this up

Never said they weren’t, just that the author himself outright denies the Doffy family abilities being advanced versions of BWs. If the author denied it, it’s clear the connections just a coincidence due to his lack of creativity in making new abilities.

True, Doffy is. I was referring more to DR-introduced characters. Also, to play devil's advocate, Doffy was much more interesting before DR. His own arc and prolongued focus ruined his character a bit.

Both have personal vendettas with Allies of SHs in those arcs, Kyros & Inuarashi (one legged gigachads) and are defeated by them.

Trebol -> Queen

Pica -> King

King/Queen/Jack were the three commanders of Kaido while Pica/Trebol/Diamante were the three commanders of Doflamingo.

Joker & Vergo were the hidden subordinates.

Oda reuses fruit and abilities multiple times in the manga. I have no reason to assume Oda saying something is unintentional is secretly intentional.
