Is this your point???People know about Oden. Literally were told throughout the Wano saga about oden and were even introduced to oden by Oda as a Roger Pirate and later were told he was also a WB Pirate.
And yeah, that tells you how the old gen compares to the weaker mid gen
The point is that Oden is an incredibly obscure figure to the world at large. That Sengoku/Akainu scene not only shows that the latter primarly knows him as a short lived WB pirate commander but also that the average marine of today doesn't even know he existed.
Which all makes sense considering the single year Oden spent with the Roger pirates was devoid of any major confrontation that would have caught the attention of the world. Even marine intelligence keeping tabs on the crew would have no way to access his strength relative to his companions.
The Jinbe comparison doesn't make sense when the average Joe knows him as a Straw Hat crew member by now and he has been a notorious pirate for several decades prior to that. Oden had neither of those things.
