His plan is to sneak up on Imu and touch him with his black vortex, kinda like the way he sneak up on another hax user Boa Hancock. He knew what those hax powers are capable of, so he smart enough to stay under the shadow and let Nika becomes the bait for Imu until the right condition to act.

Nika DF power is immune to Imu hax, and maybe can defeat Imu too, not 100% sure for now.

While true the Nika and Yami powers would be suitable resistances to Imu’s powers, however the only thing that shook Imu to his core was haki from Joyboy stored in a knot from centuries ago that’s undeniable. Blackbeard is on a path of devil fruit reliance and there’s zero implication that his haki will ever get to a point where he can just impose his will over someone like Imu. Luffy not only is on a path to using Nika’s power to its full potential but there’s no doubt his haki will develop into something completely out of this world, these are undeniable truths.

What Joyboy did was he blasted those with bestowed power, it's not their power, so it's definitely weaker and Imu the origin of the power should be stronger. Imu shows how strong he was, 6 adCoC and he didn't vanish and can still do a little trick. I wonder whether Joyboy's haki can send him back. Like Sengoku said Roger and Garp defeat Xebec, I want to know did the DR expired? because DR tooks lifespan of a person, the giant is fine cuz they have live 3 times longer than human. Why Sommers and Garling are alive if adCoC can kill them? It's very close we are getting the truth.
