Can the trap cards be used during day phase or only at night? I guess the same applies to the magic cards.

The only requirements for trap cards is you have to wait a cycle before can use them so once day 0 ends and day 1 begins you can use the trap cards you receive. As for magic cards can use them when ever you receive them

It was a pretty weak dude.

I think it was a game called Duel GX Academy.

The best Yu Gi Oh game I ever played were the Tagforce games. I never played the 5DS ones but the GX ones were so good. Unironically fleshed out some characters as well.
