I don’t know — throwing Dragon Kaido around isn’t exactly unusual, considering he’s a massive target and had just recently gotten his Devil Fruit, hitting his dragon form isn’t anything extraordinary — we’ve seen people much weaker than Xebec do that without Kaido even flinching.
He could very well have wanted to test the rest of his abilities against Xebec, especially his hybrid form. If that’s the case, I don’t see how that’s a defeat. I’d even say it’s great for a rookie Kaido who’s trying to test his abilities — getting thrown into a mountain by Xebec would help him understand just how tough and resilient he really is.
