Like these people arent actually related but eventually allied themselves with each other before their own end times, and they formed a clan so to speak to carry on their legacy.

Its meaning then got lost over time and finding one piece and the Rio Poneglyph requires a D. Clan member to truly be the person who finds it.

But theres more to it, somehow the name ties fates together, theres some other power at play there. Luffy's luck is meant to be a literal thing it seems.
