Unpopular opinion:
What makes genocides and ethnic cleansing so unbelievably cruel are two things, firstly that they are selective. Someone always survives to remember and miss the members of their people that were killed.
If nobody of the group in question survives, there will always be other humans somewhere on earth whose hearts it makes bleed to think of all the unfair cruelty.
Leading us to the second reason, that it's other humans doing it.
A whole nation dying to an earthquake or tsunami is tragic but when the cause are other humans, who kill and destroy with purpose and gusto it triggers something deep within us that is hard to explain.
The cruelty of genocides and ethnic cleansing lies not within death but a part of the one human body being ripped away while the rest still lives with a beating heart.
Therefore the best solution to all this is a collective end to all humans, at the same time, preferrably by a natural catastrophe, such as a meteorite, global flood or something alike.
Then we'll be gone all at once with no one left to grieve and to suffer.
