General & Others How can Oda be a goat if people hate his main cast?

Did you read that link .

"Torishima's comments come at a time when Oda's involvement in Netflix's One Piece live-action adaptation has been widely reported, with the author serving as a creative consultant for the show and even visiting the sets of the series. However, this is not the first time the former editor, also famous for his work on Dragon Ball, has publicly criticized Oda and his magnum Opus. In fact, Torishima vehemently dismissed the idea that One Piece could become a pillar of Shonen Jump shortly after its serialization began in the late 1990s. At the time, Torishima, who was then Editor-in-Chief, had already rejected the series three times before it was finally approved for publication."

So dude reject OP thinking it could not become a pillar of jump or it would never be popular .
OP goes on to be pillar for decades and most likley the biggest comic of all time .
While being part of world wide movement in current day.

"More recently, at Japan Expo 2025 in France, Torishima acknowledged the series' success but maintained that its quality has declined. He argued that One Piece suffers from "technical shortcomings" and that its plot is too heavy for readers to easily follow -- a core issue he debated with Oda during the manga's early days. Torishima's philosophy is that Shonen Jump titles should have an easy-to-follow narrative for their young audience. He lamented that Oda never took his advice and that the current editor has been "won over by Oda, who now has unrestrained control over the story."

Then he wanted OP story be less complex .
Him being a editor don't mean he is someone that right in his take .
There loads people that have job or is be high up and is be wrong as we can see here lmao .
Also that editor not even back up your early days comment since OP would be very differnt if Oda did what he said .

As for the topic people love OP main cast and the MC .

Idk what you mean by that. But that was the time that One Piece achiev greatness. Not today.
You're talking about when the story had the best execution and character juggling.
She's talking about when the product reached its widest audience.
Not really, or partially yeah.

Oda is defacto a goat because the essence of his story is transcending the medium. It's becomming political in real life. People come to casting shows, drop One Piece references and have to explain to the geezers in the jury what it is about. Shit like that happens more than ever.

Oda is a goat that is a fact and the story itself is peaking as always. The issues here are not essential for what it is achieving. What people complain about mostly are things you can look past by to a certain degree. For example power levels and the ever evolving methods of how Oda incoorperates fights in the manga. Because he is always tweaking stuff it is just natural that this is not a fulfilling aspect for those that enjoy story on such a layer. Oda writes on multiple layers and I admit there are flaws on each of those layers, but what makes One Piece One Piece, is how these layers work together and form new layers in which One Piece exists as a story. Or not just as a story, but for some people like a motivational book, inspirational book, a book that teaches life lessons in it's own way and many other things.

And if you personally search for other things, then just move on and go to a story that suits your demands, if you don't understand the transcendence of a story, move on, because at that point you are HATE WATCHING/HATE READING.

Too many people are hate reading nowadays, not really criticizing and not really contributing to a community that supports the original work.
That's why I for example would be a different mod if I were one, I'd work towards a community that exchanges, criticizes and such, but where there is no place for hate or "One Piss" slang. It's mostly this forums stupid moderation team that enforces all of this by not properly modding and communicating with the community.

Did you even read the discussion?

The point made was that this argument against Oda is from irrelevant people. And I should point out someone who is totally not irrelevant and made the same argument against Oda.

He was half wrong for rejecting Oda's idea since it clearly paid off but at the same time One Piece only is what it is today because Oda was rejected and had to remake his original idea. We saw how shitty early concepts were. Even the other One Piece that they tried with Garp being a pirate, and that other one with basically anime version of Jack Sparow.

Even though One Piece became a success it only was a success because Oda was lead by editors and not the other way around like we are seeing today and how jack shit became because of that.

One Piece became a success because Oda was a nobody that took orders. Now it is dog shit because he is too famous to take orders from others.

The person you quote said that OP would be remember and not hater boys .
You use a former editor to say the issues people have with OP not only from irrelevant people .
Which has nothing to do with it getting remember or not to tell the truth and that editor was wrong about aspect of it being remember cause it will and wrong about other things . ( one of the reason people like OP story is because it complex )
Plus this is a topic if people like the main cast which that won't help us with anyway .

Also saying OP become successful only because of Oda editors is nonsense or say he no longer take advice or listen editors also wrong.
Hell the reason we had luffy run up the stairs for so long is because he listen to people to do something for 1000 chapter.
There enough interviews and info over the decades to see how Oda get help by his editors and how also Oda made OP huge with his own ideas and writing .
Hell by the time MF came around Oda has some much freedom already like he does now and that was 15 years ago .

EDIT this from another interview .

"He emphasised that Shōnen Jump’s publications were geared towards the younger generation, implying that the plot needed an easy-to-follow overarching narrative that could be grasped on a single read. Despite the suggestions of the seasoned editor, Oda never followed his advice and promoted his style nonetheless, leading to the manga’s debut "

Which in terms lead to OP being huge even from the start because of the direction Oda wanted to go .
Do you think Oda was some yes only man to his editors in the early days then you are very wrong .

Oda is not transcending shit, he writes the same formula every year, the only thing that changed is straw hats no longer the main characters now its side characters. Stop DR

You'd be a dictator mod, that's all.

You don't even understand that mod needs to follow rules and make sure they are being followed. They don't create the rules themselves.

I agree in the aspect that things changed over time. But there are still results, if you like it or not. It's more your problem than it is for example mine. I am only complaining about nuisance here, I am always open to have critical discussions, with respect that is.
