Even if we assume DR buffs haki (doesn't make sense but OK), one simply cannot learn and use COC attacks of such level right off the bat unless they already knew how to used it before hand

Haki is still his primary ability, Shanks just needs a weapon to channel his haki technique through, he could do the same attacks with a bat or even a simple stick, sword isn't necessary he just prefers it as his weapon of choice.
