I feel the same way, the more characters are held back as the story goes by them, the less I care. Bonclay will have gotten more screen time and emotion out of the audience than Mihawk or Dragon

Thats also why characters like WB will have the longest impact.
He appears in 234, and basiacly finishes his character arc and display around 600.
And while Dragon and Mihawk are the most meme example even Roja and co. suffers from this too

Just gonna be honest man, the longer the story goes on, the more holes there is in it, the less consistent and stellar the character writing is. Expecting for anything better than what Kaido got for Mihawk is pretty optimistic to me. By all metrics Kaido is the more important character to Oda and he can't even get Kaido right (a character not too dissimilar in approach to Mihawk).

People should stop saying that Mihawk and Dragon are intentionally being saved by Oda because they're strong or whatever, OP isn't a novel or movie that works like that, it's a weekly manga. Oda just doesn't know what to do with all his characters since he made so many.

I don't like Shanks, but what Oda did with him is what Mihawk and Dragon fans should want, he was a cameo character until Wano, and then we started seeing him regularly, him fighting, his backstory adventures etc.

Only the Gura is really an exception, and even the DC for that isn't that good. WB can sink or wreck small islands, but he couldn't destroy something like Mariejois. When he and Roger fought for 3 days, the island wasn't destroyed. He's island level ish at best, and the idea that he can destroy the world is just goofy and ridiculous. All WB can destroy is his chance of getting a date with Shakky and his own financial independence
