Is it possible to have a time limit for the auto-merge function?

Speaking of myself, when they introduced the threadmark feature I abused it at first but stopped after like a week because it was no longer fun.
I propose for every long term user to get nomerge privileges and if the user abuses it the privilege may be taken away. There should be limitations for very new users just like with the min post count for PMs.

How? This would be VERY useful .
Can't count the tines I had to copy my merged post, delete it and repost for the notification to work. There's still users who don't know merged posts kill notifications and I experienced multiple times that I returned to a thread months later and scrolled it for fun only to find an old post someone quoted or tagged me in that I had never been notified for because of merge
