I don't care about Kuzan or other characters, Ace factually decided to become a pirate. It's not something he got wrongly labelled as for helping a citizen.

No one’s wrongly labeling anything but to say that Dragon was innocent cause he signed up to be a marine is wrong. Dragon broke the world’s laws too and attacked the marines as well.

What are you going on about? He didn't sign up to be fighting Marines, he signed up to protect civilians as a Marine.

Ace literally signed up to be a criminal who opposes the Marines. He has to live with that choice he made. Dragon doesn't, he never knowingly went into the field to fight against Marines.

Garp would be a hypocrite if he didn't free Dragon. Now if Dragon becomes a pirate after he is freed he too like Luffy and Ace would have to live with the decision to be a criminal. Doubt Garp would be saving Dragon then...just like he didn't with Luffy or Ace, but did with Coby.

The second he stole Shanks and Shamrock he made a decision to be a criminal. The second he attacked his higher up to protect people he continued his choice to be a criminal.

Kaidou got the mythical zoan, defeated the traitors of the Rocks Pirates alongside Big Mom, Whitebeard, and Shiki, joined Rocks to face Imu, attacked Imu alongside Garp, Roger, Whitebeard, and Big Mom, Imu got possessed, and he tanked Dr. Xebec’s attacks as if they were child’s play.


This is better than anything Gaban and Rayleigh have done in the entire manga. LOL

There's no recovery from that. Ratling will forever be remembered as the top tier fraud who brought a whole ass immortal army against Xebec, his wife and his toddler son and still got his ass whooped. Dude was already carried by Imu but now he's getting carried even more since he became a Gorosei.

Until we see how strong Garling truly is in the future, for the time being, he is a fraud.

But as said before, I will still give to credit to Garling as a villain.

He didn't sign up for it. Do you know what signing up means?

That was an on the spot decision, he didn't enter the arc knowing he was going to oppose his fellow Marines. Ace started his journey knowing he would.

Something I just thought of, which I feel people are missing while making the Ace comparisons is that Dragon and Ace are completely different types of prisoners.

Dragon did a mutiny, pretty bad but Garp could still bail him out. He also probably wasn't sent to Impel Down and he wasn't super well known.

Ace was a well known pirate, the Pirate King's son during tge greatest era of piracy, and the protege of the World's Strongest Man. He was very influential and symbolic, and his death was something the WG wanted to use to crush the spirits of pirates.

Also, Garp knew that WB would come for Ace. It was a similar situation to Kizaru on EH where he knew someone else woild pick up his slack.

With Dragon I'm guessing he was the only one who could've helped at the time.
