We have a color page! Everyone's celebrating fall by eating sweet potatoes, which is tradition in Japan, as I understand it! Nobody light a match! I'm not sure why Luffy's wearing glasses here. Either that's foreshadowing...something. Or it's a reference to something that's lost on me. Notably, Zoro and Luffy are the only two who are not enjoying their sweet potatoes. Could that be foreshadowing...their DEATHS?! They're the only two who won't be able to enjoy the fruits of their labors?! Probably not.
Rocks DIES! Because no one came to save him. Oof. That's actually surprisingly thematically appropriate. Really illustrates why you need a good crew in this world. Mind you...no one came to save Garp, either. But, I guess he gets saved thanks to being rivals with Roger? Kind of muddies the message a bit, but whatever.
Not exactly the most impressive showing for the Knights of God, though. Killing him when he's already down.
And God Valley just...collapses. That...doesn't actually make a lot of sense. We're definitely missing something, here. There's no sky laser or anything here. So, we're probably going to be returning to this moment, in order to find out why the island imploded the way that it did. Unless this entire island was just on top of a giant sinkhole or something. Which isn't impossible, in this world. Especially if the World turns out to be hollow, like I think it could be.
The "consumed by fog" part is probably also important. Because that's probably pyrobloin/island cloud, which has been noted to come out of volcanoes before. Oda's definitely setting something up, here.
Shakky's so happy! Hooray! At least one person got their happy ending out of all of this.
And baby Shanks gets found. But...still no bouncing baby Buggy to be seen. Hmm. I guess we ARE saving Buggy's portion of the backstory for later. Maybe Buggy has some tie to why God Valley collapsed? Or maybe Oda's saving him for something COMPLETELY different.
So...Garp never tried setting the record straight about God Valley. That's...still not a great look, but...oh well.
Ah, poor lil' Loki. Although, we do get another piece of Rocks' master plan. He wanted to reawaken the Galera Giants. And supposedly only Harald or Nika could do that. I guess that makes sense, if you think the Sun God can thaw them out of the ice? Of course, Rocks also calls them a band of "ravagers", which doesn't really fit the way that Jarul described them. Unless this is actually a THIRD group with a VERY similar name.
Hmm....Rocks and Harald aren't allies because of "love". I'm guessing that's supposed to parallel the difference between the Monkey/NIka and Davy sides of the family.
Harald really regrets not being able to help out Rocks. Well, that's sad.
And Garp helps break his son out of prison. Huh. Didn't see that one coming, actually. I was starting to wonder if Garp and Dragon would even interact during this flashback.
Harald rips off his horns, and declares that he's willing to become a slave to atone for the "sins" of his people. And...Imu's watching from somewhere. I guess this is setting up the "tradition" of Giants serving the World Government, like Oimo and Kashi?
Well, we're officially out of God Valley. But, we still have the Harald and Loki portion of the flashback to get through. Hard to say how long that's going to last. Probably not as long as God Valley. But, I think it'll be a few chapters until we get back to the present.
