But should that stop me from enjoying a proper and efficient villain?
Sorry to tell you pal, but Oda is doing a great job at building Garling for the future.
Finally, there's the possibility (and hope) of someone topping Doflamingo in the villains department.
Oh, far from me to keep you from enjoying him. I'd love to have another psychotic villain like Dofla. But for now I find Garling still a hollow vessel. He hasn't shown anything impressive, other than talking a big game only to be immediately clowned upon, hard.

You, and some of the community, are making that a bigger deal than it was
Xebec would've destroyed even Garp himself the same way if Garp had been chasing his wife and kid
Roger, Newgate, Rayleigh... namy any of them and each every one of them ends the same under the same circumstances

The BIG difference is that Garling is actually immortal, so it doesn't even matter to him how many time he gets cut

GV was introduced to us as about Roger, Garp and Rocks. Everyone else pretty much looked bad/irrelevant, even someone like WB, who is allegedly stronger then Garp. No one else was going to steal their spot, especially not Garling, who was a last minute addition from Oda.

Idk why he can´t ever defend Mariejois though lol. That´s kind of a bad look....

Ah, another readthrough but I may have to see the other translations.
Feels to me like Harald is projecting. He will never forgive a giant who does evil while he forsook his best friend. At the same time, Rocks was the only thing keeping him going from not full out becoming a WG Dog.
At the same time, he pops off on the Giants history and how they arent trusted.
Harald feels like he validated the history himself as the King by forsaking Rocks. Harald just proved to himself that, yes, he cant be trusted as a man.

This is about the weight of a King.
As a person, he wanted to stand by his best friend. As a king, he cannot jeopardize the wish that Elbaf can change from its bloody history.
The person was the wild side and the King was the humane one.
The wild side however was also the humane option though while the humane option of being a king was also bad because it left him desert his friend.
Now that Rocks is gone, all he has left is this toxic pacifist side.
But at the same time, he also has a point, the giants and Elbaf need to change and show they can co exist.

Rocks died because nobody helped him. Deserted by everyone. Harald included.
History might have changed had Harald forsaken his duty as a King and marched with Rocks.
But that might have backfired and especially on Elbaf and trying to be peaceful cause the WG would absolutely have falsified things.

I believe Imu plotted this. Rocks dies and now Elbaf and Harald are his bitch. He knew Harald and Elbaf lose either way.
Go with Rocks, Elbaf is fucked cause the WG would have went hard on going propaganda with them. They would have lose all opportunities for peace and become even more distant to everyone else.
Stay, GV happens, now Harald is a traitor to his friend and WG Dogs.
Imu wins either way.

Reminds me of Witcher 3 a bit.
Where choosing how Skellige now moves as a nation. One option is more political, more co existence, more trade and so on with others but the nation loses the bite that made it feared and the powerhouse it was. No politics, just wild battle hungry warriors who fight things out and nobody dared mess with them. But co existence with others was as good as impossible.

This is Haralds Dilemma.

Hope this is the springboard for future Garp and Dragon scenes. This is the relationship at the absolute worse, so in the futurew hopefully we see it before GV, and as it starts to rebuild enough that Garp becomes the one to take care of Luffy.

So Loki’s probably going to tell Luffy (actually Robin, because Luffy never listens) about Galley La. And strong suggestion that Rocks wanted Harald to eat the Nika fruit, as he thought he was Nika?

I think Harald is getting some undeserved shit throwing his way just because people like Rocks and have PTSD from dancing Oden.

Funny how Harald gets a pass but Sanji who was blackmailed to have his father killed should have trusted Luffy explicitly and therefore shouldn't have conquerors.

This chapter is a perfect example of how a detailed summary, does not reflect what it actually looks like.

1.
Detailed Summary - "(Roger and Garp already left the battlefield)"

Chapter - Roger and Garp barely alive, are carried to the ship by Rayleigh and Gaban.

2.

DS - "And we can see too that God Valley island was sinking into the sea (we don't see laser beams destroying the island or anything like that, just island sinking). "

Chapter - That's only half the truth. There are no lasers, but we hear and see, that the navy doesn't want to let the pirates escape, so they're shooting at the island.

So we can assume Buster Call completed the destruction.

And while we're not explicitly told what happened, it's not like we didn't get anything.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm so glad the moment with Shanks in the box made it into canon.

Xebec, rest in peace.

Great chapter .

The God Valley flashback definately would bring old fans back it reminded me Oda didnt lose his mojo after horror of show in Wano .

Elbaf and Egghead definitely was top tier for me .

I am still confused why Harald was willingly okay to be slave . What was his actual plan for Elbaf ?

I persume Imu can erase Island like he did with Lulusia .

Remember water 7 where Garp said your old man told me he met you at LogueTown?

Dragon at some point probably came to realization that his Dad isn‘t bad,and just does what he thinks is best.

still don‘t think it‘s the Nika Fruit that is able to command the Galley La,i think it‘s Lokis power

how many more chapters for this godforsaken flashback? additional 3-4 for why loki killed harald? i had hoped this would all be explained in this one...

There was no way to fit everything into this chapter.

I expect next chapter there'll be a "fallout" between Harald and the WG, and the chapter after that might end with Loki killing Harald. Then we might get a third chapter with a small clash between Loki and Shanks, and more Nika mentions.

Harald is like those european nations still not in the EU but that they want to enter in the EU at all costs, but they dont know they will lose their sovereignity in this way
