Why not? Could be a major thing. Maybe mihawk has an D in his name as well or his name is related to imu since both mihawk and imu share the same eye design.

Oda sometimes makes characters names in reference to things that are established about them in verse, without really having an in universe explanation for the name. For example, why would Boa´s and Doffy´s parents know they would end up being associated with those animals when they grow up? Or, why would Rayleigh and Gabans parents know to name them something that would end up working as a reference to their position in a crew decades later? Or Smoker, well, I don´t need to explain that.
