I'm not sure what you or anyone wanted to be honest given his return was inevitable given the cover story and he was teased throughout the timeskip/still has an open story.
But as said this is a sick fandom with different ideas of what being strong constitutes compared to Oda, so all of his feats will be downplayed and people will act as though it's inherently disrespectful that he isn't match for the protagonist.

One shotting Stussy, Sentomaru and Atlas. Who did King one shot, forget one shot, who did King beat during Onigashima raid? Not even a single scabbard.

King was legit defeated by Wano Zoro. Lucci stayed conscious after his match with Egghead Zoro. Still stayed conscious after Jinbe's attack to his badly wounded body.

Lucci surpassed everyone's expectations

The hypetools were Luffy and Zoro, they beat Kaido and King but still didn't look good against Lucci because Oda respects Lucci's portrayal so much

Left the arc looking well only some hours later

King got hospitalized after losing to Zoro and even after 2 weeks later he was still in bad condition and got low diffed by Greenshoes
