I assume theres some sort of inner conflict he's having and the spoilers dont talk about it.

Its very obviously the thing (creating an army) he was trying to atone for and now he's doing the exact opposite. Theres got to be some level of regret the moment he's promoted.

Something happens at the castle, because the Knights and Imu all talk about Harald like he never betrayed them, implying they seem to not know the full story here, and if I had to guess, Loki does with Jarul.
Yeah, in the end Harald disobeyed IMU's order. But that's the issue: it happened in the end. He paid with his life for such a dumb and avoidable mistake.

Harald was already partaking in diplomatic relationships with other nations before Xebec's death.
For which the World Government was ready to kill him. It’s like you didn’t think for even 10 seconds before posting this comment lmfao. You cited the exact actions which caused the World Government to plan Harald’s death, and didn’t even realize it. Lol

Him turning to the WG was not the best route, but even choosing to go with it, to then immediately assemble the army he was so adamantly against is simply brainless.
Him turning to the WG was literally the only route to accomplish what he wanted, which was coexisting with humans peacefully. The moronic bullshit you spouted above wouldn’t have worked in the long run as the WG would have eventually eradicated Elbaph if Harald got too friendly with too many nations.

Harald’s only option to achieve peace for Elbaph would’ve been to ally with the WG.

The Revs are already proving that you can work outside the WG without being annihilated. Of their 8-nation revolution, only Lulusia was erased*, and for reasons less connected with the population and more with what Sabo saw in MJ.
Harald had all the manpower to enlarge his network of diplomatic deals with other nations without having to bow to the WG.

*And this is because now IMU has the Mother Flame; in Harald's time, he didn't even have that.

The Revs are constantly coming to blows with the WG. If Haralds goal is to make his nation peaceful, why do you want him to basically go to war with the WG?

For me my issue with Harald's desperation to join the WG is the same as my issue with most Marines serving the WG.

There's a reason for it, but imho the story needs to lampshade more why the WG is such a preferable option.

I'll be fair to Harald especially with Oda giving him a good reason to continue his efforts, which is that Rocks' death sort of broke him.

And maybe it's possible I need to reread earlier chapters to see more of what I'm looking for, like the giant's diplomatic efforts failing.

But overall all the stuff he does just seems too much for too little. Like I said maybe I'm missing something idk.

Also it's kinda ironic that they're making the poor bastard jump through so many hoops to gain Elbaph when years in the future they're actively trying to get ahold of it.
