I think the rat just convinced Loki to not attack mj and that a nika was gonna come soon to help them. He didn't fight loki at all.

Loki did call him a coward. That makes sense if rat told loki to wait for years to get revenge on imu

HA001

World's Strongest Swordsman
Even if you assume wifi haki can cancel DF powers (only shown clearly in the anime, still up in the air if that’s how Oda intended it) Loki has conqueror’s infusion himself

On paper he should be capable of resisting it
Loki only NOW realises what acoc is though.

That doesn’t mean he couldn’t use it prior to 1152

It just means he was incapable of mastering it

No one is arguing his mastery is in the same ballpark as Shanks’ but there’s nothing stopping him from utilizing it

And Loki said, "Come, please tie my hands to this tree so that I don't suddenly run away and destroy the world by mistake."

I’m actually skeptical that it’s Nidhogg, since both Nidhogg and Jormungandr were already casually name-dropped in Elbaf. That makes it likely the fruit will have a different name.

He could instead be the hell serpent depicted in the murals, still clearly inspired by Norse mythology. A hellflame serpent would essentially be a fusion of Nidhogg, Jormungandr, and Surtr all rolled into one. If I remember correctly, Nidhogg functioned served as more as an omen of Ragnarök. The ones who actually brought it about were Jormungandr, representing the serpent aspect, and Surtr, embodying the hellfire part.
The mythical Squirrel kind of throw a wrench in all of this don't you think..

It's too early to judge i guess.. And yes name dropping before head sounds off..

I'm all for a fusion of 3 Norse mythology God being the Hellflame Serpent..

I’m really hoping he either lost on purpose or got jumped

Or even if he lost (which is fine) at least imply that it was an incredibly tough fight
Hang on, wouldn't Shanks have had HK regen back then? That would help.

Cause someone with a bag as deep as Loki losing badly because of “muh haki” is just so silly to me

Hopefully with added context it makes more sense
You know, it's kinda funny, this discussion.

Because in the story, Loki is the privileged one with super genes and 2 DFs while Shanks is the underdog.

But because of the way Oda writes hakimen, we see Loki as the underdog and Shanks as advantaged.

It reminds me of Kengan Omega (manga from which the Mihawk funny face meme originated).

There are many genetic freaks like a man with 52x muscle density and a roid monster who's his equal.

But the author keeps emphasizing skill to the point where these superheavies seem like the true underdogs....because the so-called in-story "underdogs" have license to do any bullshit in the name of skill.

And this makes them so narratively OP they might as well be the gifted privileged ones.
