Depends, if Naruto were a manga that focused more on serious geopolitics stuff, you would maybe have a point, but we know in universe, the cloud really didn't try anything similar again, nor did they end up in conflict with the leaf again, so generally the appeasement worked, and prevented a global war, which would have killed probably thousands or more(the scale of the Narutoverse is kind of odd). I don't think you'd have to be a crazy utilitarian to see why, while unfortunate, it was probably the better move.

Isn't Kimmimaro going into CM1 only because Lee's drunken fist style was too unpredictable? It's not like Lee ever significantly damaged him, and he was about to win with the CM1 pretty comfortably until Gaara showed up. You probably have a point about Neji getting lucky against Kidomaru, but the K11 generally scaled under the sound 4 at this point, and the fact that he was able to take the advantage with his arrows just speaks to his skill/

I'd be the happiest person in the world if Oda pulls some bullshit to make Shanks stronger. I don't find fun in arguing Mihawk is stronger at all, it pains me because I fucking hate Mihawk and have spent far too much time arguing Shanks > Mihawk. But this flashback killed any chances of Shanks > Mihawk sadly. He's gonna be wanked and might end up with better feats but at the same time Oda will not sacrifice Zoro's dream for his golden boy. At the end of the day, it's like you said, Oda will need to "pull some bullshit" to make Shanks stronger... it's not something that's narratively correct or likely. I don't care for writing anymore so even if it's trash writing I'll celebrate it. I just don't see it happening
Bro Oda had Ipponmatsu only recognize Zoro has a “real swordsman” when he pulled that Kitetsu stunt. Also, guys like Xebec and Harald turned out to not really be swordsman since they were using non-sword moves mid fight (Harald was literally fighting with mainly an axe this last chapter, after he casually tossed aside his sword)

Xebec was renowned for his swordsmanship which was his main weapon. Shanks has fought enough this flashback yet shown no signs of anything else. Brannew also compares Mihawk's swordsmanship to Shanks's meaning Shanks's swordsmanship is great enough to be considered as a mark of comparison for the WSS.
Even if Shanks shows something else, I won't consider it much unless it's one of his strongest moves. Like using some fodder chops in a fight doesn't mean much if most of his main arsenal is swordmanship. Irl Samurai train in hand to hand combat too. Unless Shanks shows some wifi haki fighting style where he replicates wifi haki but with actual attacks, dude is a swordsman.
Also, forget powerscaling for a bit. What do you think this does for Shanks's character? The whole point is he threw away his potential for the future. Won't it be bad writing if he gapped his rival despite the sacrifice? It cheapens the sacrifice a lot.

Completely agree man, there were some interesting ideas to experiment with along the way but its now all about that @CoC: Color of Clowns instead.
There was this one OP tv movie special, the Nebulandia one with Foxy and the vice admiral in it Komei did something really interesting with COA, he reformed his weapon into different shapes or even weapons with haki somehow. I was hoping we would get that in canon, sigh.
I remember me and a former friend talking about CoC infusion into the other hakis to enhance them and give them new abilities and also talking about elemental haki as a possibility but I hate that CoC seems to be genetic/hereditary but there are exceptions to that too with characters like Big Mom too. I would have preferred if anyone could get CoC but only the truly most bravest, the most boldest, the most ambitious and thus biggest risk takers, the most driven would unlock it, the ones willing to die for their dreams.

They're wasting the efforts of composers and musicians like this by not using the music created as needed.
The composer of MHA did an absolutely banger track for Film Gold but I think the movie actually used IIRC, as Im sure I remember hearing it and loving it during the film.
