I remember the heydays of Kaidos intro and people using mental gymnastics as to how Shanks dealt with him by offering him sake and shit lmao. Good times.

Who actually cares about age here? This was an aCoC wielding Shanks who was already having legendary duels with Mihawk. Even then, even current Shanks does not have portrayal on the level of someone like Harald, a character who held parity with the Xebec and Roger of yesteryear. Plus, Shanks had a nigh-prime Gaban’s help, and they couldn’t do shit lmao.

Oda could always retcon Shanks’ strength, sure, but there is a cleaner and more consistent way to handle this. You simply avoid doing that, and the internal logic stays intact. Loki is a new character who exists outside the established hierarchy, and that gives Oda complete freedom to go wild with his power, just like he did with Harald.
