One Piece trading cards are getting almost as valauble as Pokemon cards. Still I didn't know the new OP TCG even existed a few months ago. How can such a success go past me for so long, even though I consume OP content daily? Youtube recommended me a livestream by someone opening those packs. I also saw bunch of videos, where supposed One Piece fans and OP TCG collectors mispronounced the characters names. My impression is that most "collectors" don't care about the manga and are there to make a quick buck. Like those investing in some shitcoin because they regret missing Bitcoin, these people want to make up for not buying Pokemon cards before the hype by going into the OP TCG.
Is anyone here collecting those cards???
I like vintage Yugioh Cards, but only because I wanted to have certain cards (Exodia most of all) very badly when I was in Elementary School. As an adult it can feel good to buy the cards you couldn't have as a child. Must be similar for many with Pokemon cards. But no one had this with One Piece cards because they didn't exist, or rather because the original OP TCG flopped miserably. I had a few cards from the original One Piece TCG, that were attached to some childrens cartoon magazine. (I also had a Gaara Naruto card!).
In one video, an "investor" pointed out how sturdy the OP cards are, and that a higher percentage grade PSA10, compared to other TCGs. He didn't understand that this is bad for value. Children played with Pokemon and Yugioh cards, so not many survived in mint conditon into today. Almost all rare OP cards printed will never see play and thus survive in mint condition. Soft hands will carefully insert them into a stylish perfectly fitting sleeve directly after pulling them out of a pack. But later, all those people will will try sell at the same time. Like obese men trying to squeeze themselves through a small door all at once. Will be funny to look at. Hopefully some "investors" make cringe videos, where they curse Bandai, or other people undercutting them. Losing your savings in the stock market or even in crypto is alot more dignified than losing them by betting on a super hyper mega rare Nami/Boa goon card. Maybe after the crash i buy some OP cards.
