Current Events SBS-The Azure Dragon Fruit Retconned For Perospero (Someone Put Lolda Out Of His Misery)

Character boasts are not facts lol. That was clearly not how the other characters in the manga saw it, galaxy impact is like the best Haki feat we've seen wrt destruction,as well as his clash with Kuzan. It's not like he preformed anything better at GV or against Shiki. Nor have we seen anything crazier from modern day Hakiman like, Shanks,Mihawk Zoro etc.

Given the fact that Haki is connected to willpower, why would Garp decline in that? He's still active unlike Ray and Gaban, and he's ready to go fight Blackbeard at the drop of a hat, just like how he was ready to fight Rocks back in the day.
And Oda wrote in Garp repeatedly lamenting his declining strength because?

1. Because it creates a funny contrast between the shit we on screen with the Haki explosions, meanwhile he's like "wow I'm really not that guy anymore".
2. Because Boomers do that shit irl as well, and argue that if they were still young they would bench 6 plates easy. It's an exaggeration.

If Oda really intended for there to be a significant drop in strength for old characters, he wouldn't be having them try and challenge Yonko.

The point is that if Old Garp can do insane shit like that, then imagine how crazy Prime Garp must have been. That was what Oda was going for

No, that’s what you deluded yourself into believing lol

Old characters > “prime” characters

Old Akainu > Marineford Akainu > old Garp > prime Garp

You have to take character statements with a grain of salt. Garp saying in his prime he would do a better galaxy impact, which isn't something we've actually seen(his Haki Dc in Egghead is like, probably better than anyone we've seen) is as reliable as Crydo saying no one in the world can beat him. They're just exaggerating their overall strength, and Garp is just glorifying how he was in his prime, but no one actually views him as lesser or weaker. Kuzan specifically knows how strong he was in his prime and isn't like "wow you've seriously declined etc".

At least with Rayleigh and Gaban you can make an argument that they retired, but even then, they just have straight up better or the same feats as old men than they do in their primes. It's pretty obvious that Oda is going to be super liberal about age and characters reaching their primes, given the fact that essentially every top tier except the Strawhats is past "Their prime" by irl standards. Kaido, Sakazuki, Dragon etc are like 60 and are in their absolute prime. It's even more obvious when you remember Imcel, and the Gorosei exist and they're all like centuries old, but they aren't really portrayed as getting much weaker, even though they're literally modeled after irl old politicians.

Haki and the Devil fruits are essentially equalizers here. As long as Garp keeps his Haki, he's pretty much the same in PL, except maybe his stamina is worse or whatever, but it's nothing crazy.

Ok now y’all are just playing dumb lol

Nothing we've ever seen has really changed my mind on this. I mean, we saw Old Gaban, Prime Gaban, and GV Gaban in one arc, and Old Gaban honestly looked the best.

It's been like 1200 chapters, and we know from that SBS that Oda wants to make old people look good in OP. At the very least, I don't think you lose Haki with age.

But anyway, my point is that the VC creator wasn't really trying to give a lore drop or some shit, they were just going off the manga, where Garp's Haki doesn't particularly look any worse when he's old, and everyone sees him as a threat still. It's not that deep.

Yes, we’re all aware that Oda fumbled God Valley.

Prime Ray one shot Super Sommers, while Old Gaban needed a few hits to finish him off. That’s evidence that their Haki got weaker with age

Old Garp’s Haki was literally island level nukes, God Valley Garp’s Haki was some pussy ass building level shit

Nah, Ray and Gaban both snuck Super Sommers, but Gaban just took off a hand, while Rayleigh took him out directly. Super Sommers used his DF against Gaban to clash with him, but he never tried it against Rayleigh. And fwiw, Super Sommers, Garling and Maffey's presence was enough to prevent Ray and Gaban to save Rocks, implying they couldn't exactly neg them at that point. It's essentially the same shit.

Also, Rayleigh> Gaban anyway, so it's not anything crazy. Gaban is essentially getting the best portrayal and feats of his life in old age

Didn’t Gaban himself state he would have one shot Super Sommers if he wasn’t old and rusty?
