Alzheimers is serious bro, get it checked
I think I remember now, he stepped in to save Zabuza when Gato got involved. But I swear Haku was gonna die anyway, that's why I have trouble remembering it.

Point being it didn't move me enough for me to remember it in detail. Speaks for itself for how sad I found it. Zabuza on the other hand is a core memory.

The comment is wild cause the whole start/setup of Zabuzas death scene is BECAUSE of Hakus death. Its ok bro everyone gets old

On topic as i was reading currently both mangas when the events happened weekly:

Ace death was geniunly shocking/sad, Neji was treated like a joke the moment it happened, even when the spoils dropped if i remember correctly

Obviously, but I just couldn't remember if Haku was merked by Naruto/Sasuke beforehand, Gatos men, or lowkey even Gato himself. Zabuza's reaction to it is the only thing I remember in detail.

Matter of fact I don't even remember the structure of the Haku fight. It's like a blur to me. I know the ice mirrors were bodying Saucegay and then Naruto started releasing Kurama chakra, destroyed Haku, but the fine details are a complete blur. I know every detail of the Zabuza fight...weird.

Prios straight like always
I take aura losses very seriously. They genuinely piss me off most of the time. Very few authors deliver on it.

I'm sort of conflicted with Kizaru as well. Oda becomes too one tone with things, he needs to be a bit more nuanced with his delivery. And I know Kizaru is a nuanced character but next time we see him Oda better dive into that otherwise it's a waste. There are One Piece fans who think Kizaru is a good guy, a poor soul stuck in the middle.... that's bad reading comprehension imo but also Oda can be a bit too on the nose.

We have very different views on that, i dont consider these scenes bad like you

Oda superseeded my expectations with Kizarus writing on egghead (the "fight" was ass but i didnt like a one piece fight since i activly reading from week to week around enies lobby with lucci vs luffy so i dont give a fuck about that tbh) given i expected he would have the least strong writing of any admiral

I'm conflicted because how Kizaru is presented to the average reader. And I'm lowkey worried even Oda will forget what his own creation is, he tends to do that when he gets lost in making a point.

Kizaru is who he is. He is an extremely cold blooded individual, he feels very little remorse and even seems to toy with people. I've explained it before but if you watch any Mafia flick, even the worst of those guys would still break down when it comes to their loved ones. It's pure hypocrisy, but that's the nuance in it. I actually thought his character arc was done well and it took a lot for him to finally have an outburst, if Akainu his oldest comrade didn't question his integrity after what he put himself through he still would have kept it bottled up.

My issue is people are now trying to erase who Kizaru is at his core and make him out to be some good guy tragic character. That's a bit on Oda for how he presents things, and a bit on the readers for going from one extreme to the other.

Doesn't it feel like Oda was trying to portray him that way, though?
Obviously, he's not a good person at all, but Oda sort of made it seem like we should sympathize with Kizaru for some reason.
Only because we are seeing it through the One Piece lens. If this were a hollywood film you wouldn't be saying this, cause it's par for the course.

The issue is One Piece characters are so comically bad when they are bad, that whenever a character shows any nuance he is automatically tossed into the good guy bucket. That's also because Oda rarely shows the consequences of their actions, every sin is brushed off. The same doesn't apply in serious series/films.

Admirals are really the only characters that even feel real in this manga. I don't want Oda putting them in good or bad buckets like that. I hated how he retconned Saul's death to absolve Kuzan of that sin.
