the only defense I have for all 3 is I really don’t think mafia decided to throw like this and just meme the entire phase, and their consistency makes me think it’s a character trait and not a deliberate decision to do this

Of course it isn't, I doubt it is. But some scum is probably sitting there, given enough background to hide in by unengaged townies.
