His design's alright, nothing I'd rank too highly or too lowly. Above average I guess

Kaido would be the last when talking about underwhelming. No top tier is looking that much impressive if Kaido is underwhelming

He didn't beat Big Mom. Lost to rookie adCoC user Luffy and lost to Oden.
The only impressive thing about him is his durability and even then many top tier swordsmen can overcome his durability. Zoro without adCoC gave him permanent scar now imagine Zoro with KoH. Zoro can give him worse damage. Now imagine swordsmen with better haki like Mihawk and Shanks.
Squardo needed a sneak attack to wound Whitebeard. Zoro with broken bones blitzed Kaido and gave him permanent scar. Someone on Mihawk/Shanks caliber can easily blitz Kaido. With superior haki they can leave more than scars.
