They will atleast showcase their abilities far better than Oda is capable of. But yea just look at Egghead as an example, Lucci vs Luffy, Kizaru vs Luffy, Gorosei scenes. They carried so hard and made it a decent arc. Majority of this was either scribbles or offpanelled.
