Unlinking Imu from 2nd grade holy knight Gunko isn't the same as removing his connection with a Gorosei with the ultimate grade of contract.
It is possible the fruits stop DR. After all they are god fruits.

Which would also make Oda more Consistent with having Kaidou be the strongest till now and the Gorosei acting like hell would descend upon them when they interfered.
