Given what Vegapunk told us about DF origins though, that really wouldn’t make sense

They're supposed to be manifestations of human desires, but there should probably be a more concrete reason for why they only spawn in fruits? I would be surprised if they don't have a more concrete origin outside of Vegapunk's brief explanation.

It would be a little odd if the passage about the forest god sending devils had nothing to do with devil fruits.
