I don´t think he would ever want to be a captain, but I don´t think it would make any big difference to him if he was killing dissidents to some pirate ruled country, as opposed to dissidents to the world government proper. He just likes to kill,so you do have a point.

We've never seen a pirate even close to Rob Lucci overall (mentality + abilities + overall disposition). So i don't think he's got much of a point.

Rob Lucci was taking orders from a bum like Spandam with a smile on his face. Has no goal of his own. And his entire toolkit is the mastery of assassin techniques. To turn Lucci into a pirate is to create an entirely different character. He wouldn't even be Rob Lucci at that point.

I guess we saw WsW and he was a complete bum compared to Lucci. That's what happens at best if Lucci decided to follow Kaidou. It's actually a what if scenario of a Lucci who didn't make it as a CP agent. But again WsW didn't start as a pirate... he's just a CP agent who failed.

I think Lucci would adapt pretty well to a pirate crew pretty easily since he doesn´t really seem to be a true believer in any type of justice. He mentions once or twice that Robin could activate the ancient weapons and threaten the world, but I don´t think he cares too much about that, as he tells Spandem, he doesn´t mind what Spandem yaps about, as long as he gets to spill blood. More than anything, he loves to kill. If it was a Yonko who gave him a job offer to kill their enemies, I´m not really sure why he would disagree. I guess you could say he would be turned off by the Yonko being manchildren, but so are the CDs.

You could argue that he wouldn´t really have the opportunity to work undercover, but I don´t think that´s what Lucci likes about being in Cipher Pol. The other agents like Kaku seem to enjoy that part of their job to some extent, but I don´t think Lucci does. He seems pretty indifferent to it

Vergo is a great example actually. But see again, Vergo only works because he spent his life in the marines. If you can find me this character type exclusively as a pirate it would be different.

You can't say Rob Lucci would make for a great pirate character, when his whole design is centered around cipher poll. It would just be a different character then.

This isn't about adapting. It's about the character's style/existence itself.

@soupongo Also the one major difference between Lucci and Vergo is exactly where the difference in their overlap is, in other words the pirate side of Vergo: His respect for his captain...this is something Lucci doesn't have. Making him an extremely anti pirate character in this manga, all things considered.

Not really, not in the same sense Vergo respects Doflamingo. He just showed awe or fear in that moment when he saw the giant monster infront of him. He does respect the chain of command though. Even if it's a bum like Spandam. But you'll never see Lucci smiling because his captain called him a friend and told him he did well. This is an aspect completely missing from Lucci that you can find in Vergo. This is what you can call the pirate aspect Vergo has. The rest of Vergo's design is centered around the Navy...which is why you didn't see Trebol, Pica, Diamante given Vergo's demeanor, design, or combat style.

What vergo and Doffy has is that Vergo believes in Doffys ideals and want him to succeed

You can respect someone, like your chef for example, without that

I agree that Gucci doesnt have that, in that respect he is more removed from that even as someone like kizaru
