The mistake is in thinking that setbacks for Luffy revolve around taking damage. That's not exactly possible with Nika anyway

Luffy is due an L so that spanking is defo coming imo. No escaping that as it's pattern Oda always repeats for Luffy against major antaognists.

With regards to the Gorosei ting, Egghead was a transitional arc and didn't really have any decisive matchups, was just a bunch of fluff fights and exposition so we were never really going to get an outright battle with the Gorosei. Luffy didn't really look bad against the Gorosei and vice versa tbh. Plus, narrative wise Oda cannot really be having "Nika" lose to the Gorosei.

I mean the same thing effectively happened there, the Gorosei were sent away after fighting Luffy, Emeth and co. The only difference is none of them really hurt Luffy. The most damage he took was a psychic attack by Saturn early on

I don’t think Oda has it in him to have Luffy in the backfoot anymore
