I don't think this is going to happen but it's so interesting I had to make a little thread about it.

During Gedatsu's Cover Series, we explore the wild and wacky world of underground tunneling. Via a mole. That Gedatsu rides in.

Yes.

I am convinced this ridiculous cover series has to have some form of payoff.

I've made a few threads about Lulusia being knocked down into the inner earth, revolving around the same fate happening to egghead. Obviously that didn't happen.

However, we've just seen York in Marijoa with the Mother Flame. Imu has the Mother Flame, though incomplete.

Now Elbaph is a giant nation, so, i think it would be a bit much to expect the entire island to go down.

But a small part of it? Sure.

This could also lead to a crew split up.

Say 1/10 of Elbaph gets swallowed up, and half the crew goes down with it.

Underworld rescue arc. I've speculated that Elbaph's underworld contains large amounts of ancient technology frozen under ice. Technology, from the era of the three thousand year old lab.

Furthering this train of thought, it's possible that deep beneath Elbaph, there's a shit ton of ancient history. Buried cities. Monsters. Maybe even giants living underground.

We"re going down.

Like I said, I don't think this is gonna happen but it's really interesting and if it did happen, I'd really like it.

Look at egypt and all the ancient shit under the sands the rich won't let us explore in real life.

Can you imagine what's actually buried under Elbaph?

If Imu loses here, or at least has to retreat before they get what they want, i can easily see them giving Elbaph the Lulusia treatment.

I do agree with the general idea that we're going to be headed down, sooner or later. FAR farther down than some people expect, really.

We've gotten various clues that there's something up with the center of the planet. The holes in the ocean. The flames at the bottom of the Chapter 1138 Mural, which seems to imply the Mother Flame was originally in the center of the planet. Brooks and V Nusjuro's underworld-themed attacks that freeze people. The diseases that seem to be coming from underground, like Amber Lead. Imu's dark powers erupting from below the surface of the planet this last chapter.

And it would be pretty fitting for the current God of this World to send the Strawhats to the Underworld.

I'm just not sure that will be what's next, though.

Because, there's Lodestar. And while Lodestar may or may not be that important in the grand scheme of things, it IS the last island we know about between Elbaph and Laugh Tale. It would be a little weird if Oda totally skipped it.

And splitting up the Strawhats again, this late in the game? I don't know. Maybe. And I guess it would give us to have a big, triumphant reunion on Laugh Tale for the finale. Plus, Zoro would get a chance to literally become "The King of Hell". I don't know if I want the Strawhats to split up, since they were split up for so long before Wano started, but I can't say that's impossible, I guess.

Although, I will point out, there's another clue that we might be headed down, at least eventually.

The Four Road Ponelgyphs. Because...there's FOUR of them.

That might sound obvious, but there's a detail about that which is easy to miss. If you just needed the Four Road Poneglyphs to find your way to Laugh Tale by making the points intersect on a map, then REALLY you would only need 3 of them. Because "triangulation" is called that for a reason. If Laugh Tale's location were somewhere on the ocean, like a "normal" island, you really should be set even if you only have 3 out of the 4 Road Poneglyphs. You'd still be able to find Laugh Tale, just by making those points connect. So, why do you need all 4?

Well, because that fourth Poneglyph probably gives you the "depth" where Laugh Tale is. 3 out of 4 Road Ponglyphs let you know the location on a flat plane. And the Fourth gives you the depth of where Laugh Tale is. Which means Laugh Tale's location is probably either somewhere UP...or more likely in my opinion, DOWN.

Laugh Tale could be our next "Skypiea"-like arc.

...Or the Fourth Poneglyph gives you the time you need to get there, if there's some sort of time-travel shenanigans going on with the island. But, I find that unlikely, since Roger was able to find it 25 years ago. If it only showed up at certain times, it would be odd if it was showing up every 25 years or so. So, that's a possible, but unlikely explanation, in my mind.

But, yeah, chances are, eventually we WILL be travelling down to the center of the planet. But, I don't know if we're headed there yet or not. That may be something Oda's saving for when we need to reach Laugh Tale. But, we'll see.

And in this inner world they will encounter giant spiders, coalescing the series Spider Riders (sung by Drake) with One Piss

Considering the idea of a world below or a world within a world has been popular in both sci-fi and fantasy for forever it would be odd for Oda to skip it. Skypiea and the sky islands already did this style of world but it still isn't the same as something like Journey to the Centre of the Earth. And now that you have brought it up the idea of one last true adventure arc like Skypiea being a trip below to a hidden world is just to tantalising to me. The One Piece being hidden beneath the surface is fun but the idea of hiding something Imu fears in what many would consider the devil's domain is funny. I think it is a pretty solid idea and I am convinced those cover stories are more important than they let on.

Sounds like the plot of Tales of the Abyss with the Qliphoth stuff and whole cities just moving underground.
Never got into Tales of the Abyss, but I've heard a bit about its lore. Would not be surprised if Oda took inspiration here.

Great point about the four road Poneglyphs and triangulation. I always forget about that. When it comes to history, cities are built on top of each other. While there's still obviously a lot of sunken cities that are in some decent condition, there could be entire metropolises, underground that have found out how to use underground lighting.

I think we're probably going to the center of the earth with this one. The lack of pyramids in Alabama always bothered me, and this theory also leads to an easy explanation.

Alabasta is full of pyramids, and they're all buried under the damn desert. I really wanna see robin and crocodile explore pyramids together with Vivi.

I think we're going to be doing a lot of archaeology towards the end of the series

I'm really hoping we get some crazy eldritch stuff down there. Ragnir's given me hope we're gonna see a lot more crazy animals and creatures.

It's also a really sensible place to hide from the world government. Like obviously sky islands are the best place you can hide from the world government, but making a little bunker works too. There's a reason crazy rich people do it.

I'm fascinated by how much ancient technology could be down there. When it comes to enel's moon arc, there was pretty much nothing on the surface, and then an entire underground ancient city.

I swear this mole is going to be important in the future
