I think DGM is a fantastic manga for example, up there with the goats for me, but very rarely talked about, but I bet ya if you asked people who read both which is better, I'd say people would lean towards DGM in niche communities.
DGM is a masterpiece, as for me. Also, only because of DGM I returned to One Piece LOL(I dropped One Piece for 3 years, before war started in my country)
It's much easier to wait for the next chapter of this real legend, while you can read One Piece meanwhile.

@ZenZu Ngl, OPM almost has as much meme potential as JJK. It’s too bad that JC Staff did everything in their power to kill all the traction it had (the redraws didn’t help either obviously, but OPM is still one of the best ongoing manga)

Fair enough, a lot of these don’t have the same reach as OP so I can see what you’re saying

Of the popular manga it gets gassed a lot but I’d still say it’s a drop in the bucket compared to something like JJK. It’s been the greatest thing since sliced bread for the last 5 ish years
Which definitely tremendously aids it.

Like I don't have anything against anyone liking OP, or loving it or whatever. My objection comes up when people try to claim OP is the single greatest thing ever.

I like a ton of manga I think are, to put it gently, not of great quality. Like I really liked the Seven Deadly Sins, but I am not gonna pretend it's a top tier manga, while a lot of OP fans will make you think you're reading world renowned literature.

I kid you not, iirc there was guy here saying OP will be taught in literature classes in the future and have the same impact as Shakespeare etc.

DGM is a masterpiece, for sure. And I believe the experience will be even greater once it's finished and can be read in bulk.

Another hidden gem I really like is Pandora Hearts. Very very very good manga with very interesting characters and twists.

Vanitas no Carte by the same author is great too imo.

OPM along with AOT were the only two anime to transcend the industry at that time. Anime was a lot more niche but randoms who didn't even know what anime was had watched those series. They killed OPM with the delays and s2.

Pandora is another Legend. I mean, when you are reading manga and don't know who will die next - that's a crazy feeling. Because it made the story unpredictable. You were just reading manga when everyone would die.

As for D.Gray Man. Finally, we got to the Mansion...so the end is closer than it was when the Mansion was mentioned for the first time(I became DGM fan exactly right on hiatus, that happened when that chapter released). I also believe that almost everyone will die in the Final, like in Pandora.

One Piece is my favorite manga and probably the best I’ve ever read but at the same time I don’t think it’s possible for any manga to become legendary

First off, is there any world renowned Japanese literature to begin with? On the same level or close to Shakespeare I mean?

They have world class directors (you hear Kurosawa’s name fairly often even in the US) but when it comes to literature people usually turn to Europe and China

I don’t think manga will ever be able to stand in the same ring as far as that goes. I think I can acknowledge that from a historical point of view OP may be brought up because of sales figures

But I have a hard time believing it’ll make a mark writing wise. Will any manga?
