Here's the issue with that. Oda can't just make Big Mom all of a sudden out of the blue a competent character without her going through a drastic personality shift. So if those gag like moments all of a sudden stop, it breaks the flow of how she has been written from day one. Building upon what has been established within the confines of her character is not bad writing. Breaking that pattern with no explanation would be.

I have to disagree here.

She actually has been a completely different character (in terms of competence and threat factor) in the beginning.

Remember her at the start of WCI: She was portrayed as a cunning mastermind, who knew all steps from Luffy & Co. and even managed to fool Judge & Germa into a Red Wedding situation. Then she actually no-diffed Niji and Yonji on the rooftop, while her kids took care of Luffy and the rest.

She was actually really frightening back then.

Then her tantrum after the teaparty happened and suddenly Oda did a complete 180 on her. After that moment he solely used her for gag situations. In Wano she really has been one gigantic comedic relief and that's just bullshit.

The discrepancy of her original portrayal and how she is portrayed now is just idiotic. It's not about gag moments with her, the problem is that she is ONLY one gigantic gag since the teaparty.

As long as Oda doesn't state 'I'll stop new recruitment' Fans will hand any possible character to become new crew. And those two are undeniably leading candidate so far with their respectable SWOT. If Oda dropped them than fans will be silent after that. Plus new candidate has more possibility than old ally statistically. As long I love (not more than Monet tho) Bon Clay, he fits end war ally than sh.

I don't think that is the issue...if we go back and look at BMs portrayal at the start before jokes were made on her...she was truly terryifing with her connection, cunning and power. She was not a joke from the start..its more like oda couldn't think of better way to write a story to help SHs from her other than make her a meme.
Like does oda expect her to do a strong attack and miss/not succeed all the time. That is just stupid content, atleast makes me think what is the point of adding that if not going to do anything with it. Only thing I can think of is he wants to make her seem like a threat like he kept doing in WCI but readers won't buy it anymore...only thing he can do is add reactions which he wants(to make her seem like a threat) from the fodders.
At this point I personally think BM won't be a villain...she will be gag till the end and at some point will be on good terms...or atleast not an a threat to them.
