This is an insane law. Someone can just go over a border illegally and have a kid, and all of a sudden they're a citizen? This law was made for slaves, not foreigners abusing it.

It was created to prevent the existence of a permanent underclass, like those that existed during the era of slavery.
Imagine if there was no birthright citizenship and you had generations of people who were born, raised, and died in America without citizenship. The 14th amendment is the difference between America and countries like Israel or UAE, and I’m glad we have it.
In any case, as Kavanaugh ruled, it is part of statutory law and hence even if it wasn’t unconstitutional Trump still wouldn’t have the power to change it.
