However, it wouldn't be far-fetched to think he's a serial killer and that the "helping town" part wasn't something he was warned about, that completely escaped my mind.

any neutral that gets caught can claim to help town
and survivors can lean toward town or scum
whoever can help them get to the end. no such thing as a "pro town" survivor as far as I know. Al showed much of that last game.
