@Roo Let us all be honest
Legit no civilization would have seen Amerindians having an apocalypse that's so severe that it made the black plague, fall of Rome or the Mongolian conquests look like daycare , and not take advantage of it

Bantus took advantage of a very similar situation against Khoi sans
I mean we do live under a different world order, that’s kind of the point of the UN and ICC.

I do think it’s stupid to have anachronistic views of history, but nowadays we should be able to tell right from wrong and I think you do have the right to be turned off by some of the actions of prior societies

but yeah the continent was pretty much empty by the time most European powers settled. Not only were Amerindians all recent settlers of the continent, but the diseases wiped out near 60% of their society. Insane shit

But it's weird how people pretty much use artificial time periods to when we should judge by modern standards and when we shouldn't

Actually more like 95%

On another note, the fact that The Americas and Siberia has so many isolates, more than Africa, tells me that experts are just using wrong methods, there's no way every Tribe in Siberia just made up it's own language family from scratch

You wouldn't exist since without the discovery of americas and without potatoes, europe would have had 40% or so of it's current population
Ok, but it wasn't my questionning..

Like I said, I uses confirmation biases a lot to verify informations quickly. If there are two groups I can't choose my information from and I know that one group is highly more reliable than the other, using my confirmation biases or rather using my own knowledge of which group I will be able to trust more will be effective to decipher the information quickly.

This is how I often check informations. I know that I've sources that are reliable, so instead of making my own researches that can take hours, I check first if these sources haven't already made the research or a political point. Then, if the information or the result of this search is a bit more challenging, I expand the information bubble to include less or more radical vision but always with ethics in mind.

This is what allowed me to politicized quickly.

bro thats not confirmation bias. confirmation bias is mainly about seeking information that reinforces the beliefs you already hold or interpreting most information to reinforce the beliefs you already hold.

what you are describing here isnt like that at all, your metric is the reliability of the scource, not whether it reinforces what you believe anway.

Perhaps because I didn't explain it well so let me do that again : Most of the time, when I go to verify an information, I already have a point of view on said information.

So using a sources that has a lot of chances to confirm said information, is the confirmation biases at play. Now, I don't choose my sources based on my confirmation biases or my information bubble. In fact I always chooses them based on ethical, activists and scientific datas, and usually, I chooses people who will challenge me just slightly.

And an interesting thing happens when my point of view diverges from the ones of my sources. At this moment, I face contradiction: "I know for a fact that my sources is more ethical and reliable than me, yet I disagree.... why?"

This is how I politicized. Because this contradiction forces me to understand why my sources say what they are saying. This is how I got out of conspiracy theorism, confused rightism, liberal leftism and idealism... without ever reading a book.

You could say that confirmation biases are the tools I uses to verify the stage of my politicization, since I always keep sources around me that are challenging my vision toward something counterintuitive and if I keep having confirmated informations, I'll consider - over time - that I need to find new sources that will challenge me more.

With always one mantra in mind : Think beyond.

so basically you agreed with me that you are not actually using confirmation bias for your scources of information but you still instist on it because reasons.

you must be fun at parties :kuzanshut:

bruh thats literally antithetical to confirmation bias.

I wonder what could have become the "americas" without colonization...
It probably would’ve still ended up largely populated by Europeans and African slaves. Like we talked about before the natives were wiped out by diseases leaving to large amounts of empty land.

maybe there wouldn’t be wars or disputes between natives and Europeans, but eventually the survivors would’ve probably ended up joining the new euro descendent nations

I use it in my process of politicization if you prefer.

I see an information > I get a point of view on said information > I know that my sources will usually confirm my point of view > I check my sources and usually that is the case > This is what the process of a confirmation bias is. This is how I can know that I have a reliable politicization.

But to be sure to have a good source, I need a good system first:

The point of a great politicization is to understand how to uses our biases FOR ourselves and not against ourselves and to understand that our environment will politicize us no matter if we agree or not. So I uses this to my advantage and create a space where my sources are always SLIGHLY more politicized than me on different subjects.

When I say "slightly more politicized, I mean that they depict a form of understanding for a concept that I'm not familiar with and usually something that make my own point of view usually more slightly reactionnary than theirs > which I consider to be more ethical (depending on the contexts obviously).

This system prevents any form of reactionnary confirmation biases to be sent toward me and pushes me naturally toward more understanding while keeping my mindset ethical through a reaction effect that I know will politicize me naturally.

To do that, I'm always staying aware of the slight shifts in the politicization of my sources in order to adjust mine. If for example I'm on twitter and my sources says something that I find slightly more reactionnary that their usual positions. I pause, analyze the content, and keep in my head the fact that I will potentially get rid of that sources later... But sometimes, what I find slightly more reactionnary is actually a form of radicalism in desguise. So I keep an inmind checklist, and when a person or entity gets around five non acceptable checks, I get rid of the sources and try to replace them by someone that challenges my position.

The interesting stuff happens when my sources share something that "feels" more ethical and enlightening, but that I find, really challenging. In such case, I know that there is a possible point of possible self-critic and I focus on that specific subject, usually by adding an external source shared by the previous source on the subject.

This extends my windows of understanding and let me simmer in a rethoric that I'm not familiar with. After a while (a few month usually) I have absorbed all the main arguments and materiality of their point of view and my internal political vision slightly shifts toward that new source.

It's like a relay race, my sources are the runners and I'm the baton. I use confirmation biases only to verify my position. After that, I let the system - that I created - guide me.

This is why I'm so adamant in my beliefs. It's only possible for me to go forward, never backward (unless I lose my memory ofc)

Diseases were weaponized, without colonization, things would have probably been very different. I think it's fair to say that the values of indigenous people would have aligned quite well with communism.

Then again, without colonization, there probably wouldn't have been any capitalism..

the weaponization of diseases were like a 18th century thing, centuries after the initial spread that killed the amerindians

Like 1 tribe or 2 lol. Natives were not a monolith. For example the Mayans and Aztecs were closer to feudalism than communism. I think the tribes in south america were closer to their own version of mercantilism

There's no way to know, they probably would reach their own system outside of what we currently know or a version of it

Perhaps yeah

:hope:

How many leftwing radicals winning elections brought dictatorships to their country ? I can count Venezuela. But it’s important to notice that right wingers wether classified extreme or radical even democratically elected aren’t necessarily bringing or succeeding in bringing dictatorships.

Trump isn’t there yet, neither is Meloni.

Erdogan took his time and maybe Netanyahu is on his way like him.
