I wonder if this "Bone Eater" katana's hax power is basically a guaranteed avulsion. So, no matter how much force is exerted, if the blade or one of its slashes makes contact with any part of a living creature's body, it just rips it off or consumes it to power itself. That's probably too op, though.
:DeepThink:
dang totally forgot that Imu's weapons all have unique abiltiies :lawsigh:
so Waban was going against two weapons (Xintiang Axe and Bone Eater) + Maki with just his two Axes and still managed to injure Imu :crazwhat:

Shanks could do what he did. Did we forget how Old Gaban toyed with Luffy or how Kizaru fed Luffy ? Serious non mentally nerfed Kizaru mid diffs Luffy. That doesn't make him a god tier.
Midi diffing injured Loki doesn't make one a god tier either.
Post Wano G5 Luffy is bottom tier of low top tier.
This is Luffy at his strongest. He's not playing around like he was with Kizaru and Gaban. He's completely healthy and stronger than ever, yet Imu destroyed him.
And Imu would've done the same to Gaban if Oda never retconned his strength. But that's just how Oda's writing is nowadays

Oda's not really showing this supposed growing nerf that's inflicting Imu, though. He coughed blood a few times and that's it. Am I really meant to believe that an injured old Gaban can clash with Imu for a minute?
Even Kaido has the excuse that he has a problem where he takes attacks head on too much. Imu doesn't have that type of excuse, Oda just retconned his strength completely
I mean, it's stated and shown that he is negatively affected outside of MJ and can't remain beyond it's boundaries for too long, so yeah, it's a factor. Let's also not ignore the fact that Gaban is a more experienced fighter with a higher technical mastery of CoC. It's the same ability he was lecturing Luffy and the others about in the context of fighting these immortals, which includes Imu. The fact is, Imu isn't done. Luffy, and probably Loki too, will fight him again, and he'll probably still have the upper hand. This moment is inconsequential to his established power level. All it does is give respect to an old legend who just lost his arm this chapter and might lose his life in the next. Oda was never going to humiliate him with a piss poor performance.

How can I have faith that he'll perform well against Luffy and Loki? Oda made him do poorly against someone weaker than both of them.

Again that’s you overrating Luffy. Luffy is not near the old legends strength. There was no retcon

He was at his strongest too vs Kizaru. What makes him stronger here lol?

You can trust me. I knew exactly how well Gyaban was going to do this chapter, and I know how well Imu will do later in the arc. Just appreciate the short masterclass Gramps put on for us, because he's done fighting for the rest of the arc.
:myman:

He got to prepare by eating a lot of food and clearly wasn't holding back on Imu
With Kizaru he held back multiple times even when he had the chance to literally crush Kizaru in his arms
Food doesn't make him stronger. It increases his stamina.
He didn't hold back against Kizaru, he was crying that he couldn't save Vegapunk and Kizaru actually fed him. If he grabs Imu here, he won't do anything different than what he did in Egghead.
