I say this as someone who has Luffy as one of his favorite characters despite the slander, but these chapters where Imu easily handles Luffy and then Gaban calling Luffy out, is very much needed and I'm happy to see it.

It was starting to get a bit annoying seeing Luffy go G5 and just have fun and take not any dangers or threat seriously anymore.

You had Egghead where Vegapunk was lying severly injured meanwhile G5 Luffy was all smiling and laughing, then you had the island being attacked with very powerful enemies but nope still acting the usual.

And then you have Elbaf, where the country is being attacked, Imu and the HK are trying to kidnap the children of Elbaf and force the country to join them.

Zoro and Sanji are fighting Omen Sommers and Killingham and are taking their fight seriously.

And then you have Luffy who knows Imu is a massive threat, even ate as much he could so he could take him on, but once the fight did start.

Guess what, he didn't take Imu seriously anymore and just started to have fun like he usually does.

His beat down by Imu and then him getting called out by Gaban is so satisfying to see.

Now I'm not saying that Luffy needs to go all edgy and be serious cause fuck that, but he really needs to stop having fun when the threat is very serious.

He's an 800 year old immortal who doesn't leave his castle much. God Valley was likely the last time he left Mariejois. He ultimately left the job of killing him to Garling. I don't really think that's "regret".
