Tbh rayleighs training is becoming more and more suspect every arc we learn more about haki.

I think only the CoC coating is dumb. I mean how hard was it to just tell Luffy he could coat his attack with CoC? Because without training Zoro could do it and Sanji is also going to achieve it without training.
Luffy even went to another training with Yakuza grandpa to then figure it out by himself when he was hit by Kaido. Oda really messed up with this part.

And then you have these morons who thinks Oda plans everything while it's obvious he comes up with new think on the spot. Sometimes he probably rereads his own story and thinks "oh I think I am going to write something about that thing I had this particular character say 10 years ago" and his fans go "damn he's good!".

That’s kinda what I mean. With how Gaban spoke to Zoro makes me think there are certainly ways for CoC to grow stronger and it’s just oda never really thought about it when Ray was training Luffy.
