The simplicity is both a positive and negative, it creates fights that don't really have anything going for it, and Haki can't really move the plot forward the way something like devil fruits can. nen and Chakara are better, and KI deserves preference for being the OG
It also has a pretty poor intro in the series. Rayleigh is fun, but the fact that something so basic was unknown for 500ish chapters, with characters like Crocodile and Lucci not knowing about it, while clearly having status in verse is absurd. I would even go as far to say that Haki is generally something that everyone in verse should know about, including the east blue Strawhats. It was treated like a video game update, not something that made sense within the story and worldbuilding. You even have moments where it clearly wasn't an idea in Oda's mind, like Teach telling Ace he wouldn't be used to getting punched in the new world as a Logia...
