I think its because they fight Imu. The Holy Knights seem bum in comparison lol.
I just think it's a Shonen thrope.
Tbh Imu vs everyone drags too long already lol. Feels like FO-RE-VER.

Well, to Awaken a DF, the user has to be in sync with the power itself. This is why Kaido couldn't, because the Azure Dragon is a entity for justice and he sure wasn't that.
For Blackbeard, it is a power of darkness. So how does one become one with that? I would have to say dying, with how darkness is equated with death. He has to put his life on the line and not fear it but embrace it.

I wouldn't exactly call that an asspull. When I think of asspull's I usually think of off the wall shir with no possible way of predicting that was something thr character could do. Like, G2 (for example) isn't an asspull, because its something that when you think about it it makes sense Luffy could always have done. It was just a clever way of using the same abilities he always had, so if you wanted to you could definitely have predicted him being capable of something like that.
An asspull for me is more like.....I don't know, like how every single Itachi fight he pulled out some new ability that conveniently allowed him to perfectly deal with whatever problem he was facing. Even if he had no prior examples of using an ability like thar (for example, the giant fire sword somehow also being a Sealing Jutsu; despite Itachi never once in his life using another Sealing Jutsu, he just whipped one out in the one situation he needed it.). Or if it ran directly counter to all other examples of said ability he used (,"cough" Izanami being the only ocular genjutsu that doesn't need eye contact "cough").

If this is truly the work of his fruit—and, practically speaking, he's temporarily manipulating reality - then this is perfectly fine.
I simply don't like the idea that one of the greatest injuries inflicted by the main threat of this series, who lives for a thousand years and few people should understand his power, let alone fight it, can be nullified by food.

I think the raws are needed here.
But I do see what @Dark-Abel means as super mode power-ups are the bane of all shonens, because once they are introduced, the MC develops them as a crutch to where fights where they *don't* use them is as rare as a blue moon.
