I was.. but now that you 've said that, I won't be.
It's not that hard to stop saying bad stuff. The R word and many other sanist terms have not been "repurposed" to mean something else. They are still used today by sanist and ableist institutions, people and circle as a weapon to attack people with disabilities or mental afflictions that talk "too loud" if I say.
If you want I can spend a few weeks just to scan the entire political thread to show you just how many time I've been attacked with such words and many other, because I shared having a mental struggle.
You would see not littles jabs like you can see between posters here, but a constant flow of sanism that was so strong that I had to warn the moderation, not just for me, but for others as well.
It's just language, so it is not the same as violences of institutions of course, but it is still a violence. Still something we have to deal with everyday. Still something that is used to belittle our existence and lives constantly.
I've a strong armor. I can't take that. Others, not so much.

"Retard", is just ONE of a large panel of weapon that can be used against the victims of the ableist and sanist system.
Removing the usage of this word is necessary but understanding why it is problem is better. That would avoid creating a paradigm where one can't really say "retard" without feeling a little bit because of social pressure while being able to completely dehumanize a person with a mental affliction without remorse

I'll tell you a little secret: The insult you love so much only work because you are part of the exclusionnary group. You laugh because of the power these insults create. As each one of them slightly pushes the other toward the bottom of a specific domination system:
- The N word ? It pushes people down the racist hierarchy.

- "Pussy" ? It pushes people down the patriarcal hierarchy.
- "Hobo" "trash" "parasite" ? It pushes people down the capitalist hierarchy.
These insults "hit hard" because they create a power relationship in each domination system we live in. So yeah, other insults do not feel so "strong" because they are mostly invectives. Anything else is just complaisant laughers in front of oppression.
