Imo Oda is trying to do 2 opposite things:
1- We have the whole inherited will thing passed down in history, etc, etc, etc, prophecy, whatever, and it culminates with Roger saying he was too early and someone would surpass them, gaban calling shanks "child of destiny", which indicates he thought shanks would be the person to do it, and shanks betting on Luffy to do it, since he ate the nika fruit. This "final payoff" thematic is present since chapter 1.

2- He read all the pirate jesus memes online and got pissed about it, so he tries to force down our throats that Luffy isn't some messiah and does things because he chooses to. Despite the whole "destiny" thing, ultimately, Luffy's "freedom of choice" is, at least, as important.

In theory, it could work. Luffy's own motivation doesn't need to be tied to the bigger picture, but, imo, Oda's not doing a good job at it at all.
It feels very, VERY cheap.
Also, Usopp saying things like they dont care about "even Roger" is insane.

Luffy basically has Roger as a goal. Luffy wanted to visit the place where Roger was executed in Loguetown. Oda made everyone and their mother see Roger in Luffy. Luffy has the same secret dream as Roger. Now it's "we dont care about Roger"? Give me a break.
Remember Robin in Skypie? saying that only fools would disregard history?

Trying to go "it's 100% all Luffy" is insane. xD
cry

Oda is doing everything he can by demystifying Imu from God tier to normie Top Tier and I'm not sure whyy.

Even Kizaru didn't reveal this much gimmick aside from clones and acceleration attacks.

This is not how you write your supposed final villain.
Yeah. My interest has plummetted to an all time low.

After disaster of Wano, I thought we at least had Imu and Gorosei. Gorosei lost all aura in Egghead, Imu is now losing it in Elbaph (at least he's still somewhat looking strong for FV status unlike Gorosei who were completely buried)

That is the problem to be honest.
In terms of tension and pacing, it’s really poorly handled. When a villain unveils a new form, they’re portrayed as overpowered; they shouldn't be made to look like a joke in that very same chapter. It completely kills the tension and seriousness when the final villain, in his new form, gets humiliated by Hajrudin. The problem isn't even that Hajrudin and the others are getting these feats, but if they do, it should be against the weaker version, the one that was already capable of destroying everyone.

From a writing standpoint, it’s very poorly executed. The form upgrade was so random and even then it was so meangless since it seems to not be make any difference...
I don't mind Luffy/Loki combo attack being able to pierce Imu's shield but why so quickly after he transformed?
Imu should logically be quite stronger now but we hardly feel it because of Oda didn't even give him a full chapter of looking invincible in this form.
Obvious it is far from over and I don't think it's his final form but the transformation feels pointless rn

This fight feel like a roller coaster, a lot of ups and downs, a really bumpy one.
Usopp:
he is getting the gas -> nope -> he is getting the gas -> nope -> for sure this time he is... -> nope -> no doubt this time...

Imu:
Imu is the most powerful -> wait he isn't that powerful -> for sure he is no.1 -> eh he is not that strong -> wow he is absolutely top 1 -> hell no he isn't -> damn he is about to wipe everyone -> nah who is this blud...

Loki:
Loki is the strongest -> no he isn't -> he is getting hybrid -> nope -> for sure hybrid -> nope -> where is the hybrid -> nope...

The strawhats:
Oda showed some love to them -> Wow they will face Imu -> nope...

Gaban:
I cannot move -> 1 on 1 with Imu

If it’s an in between form I’m not shocked it feels useless with how much Oda mimics Toriyama we’re basically in second form cell time right now
